Volume 2025 Issue 1

Welcome to the very first edition of the Friends of Fletcher Miller Newsletter! We’re excited to share how our community of families, staff, and supporters is working together to enhance the well-being of every student and staff member at Fletcher Miller School. Through collaboration, creativity, and care, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive school community—one action at a time.

We are so excited you're here!

Friends of Fletcher Miller Staff Event

Friends of Fletcher Miller has been very active this fall!  We provided treats and lunch to our hard working staff.  We've raised funds through our Butter Braids fundraiser, King Soopers Community Rewards program, and our first Bonfire merch campaign. We also held our 2nd Annual Clark's Toy Workshop for toy modification and switch fabrication!  Although we've been busy, we are committed to continuing making impacts small and large to support our students, staff, and local community.  Check out all the fun events and resources below!

Fundraising Updates

Butter Braids

Dedicated sellers, including Fletcher Miller students, staff, and community members, helped sell a total of 334 butter braids for our October fundraiser. Way to go everyone!  Sammi Huckaby, one of our preschool teachers, sold over a whopping 70 braids! Thank you to everyone who supported this event!

Clark's Toy Workshop

A few weeks ago, Clark's Toy Workshop gathered over 50 volunteers to modify toys to be switch accessible and soldered several 3-D printed switches to be used with the toys! All of the toys and environmental controls will be available in December as part of the Winter Wonderland event!

Thanksgiving Baskets

Each year, Fletcher Miller traditionally holds a bake sale before Thanksgiving. Those funds, paired with funds from Friends of Fletcher Miller and our community partner, Resilience Church, allow us to donate food baskets and turkeys to Miller families needing additional support over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last year, 34 baskets were provided to families. We are excited to be supporting more amazing families!

Resources for SNAP Benefits

There are anticipated delays in the November SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown.  We are here to support our Miller families and community. Please reach out if we can be of any help during this difficult time.

Urgent Update from Colorado Department of Human Services: SNAP Benefits for November 2025 are on Hold

Because of the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has not released the funds that states use to pay SNAP (food assistance) benefits. This means Colorado is unable to issue the approximately $120 million of November SNAP benefits to clients until the federal government restores funding.

What you should do: Continue to apply and recertify - counties are continuing to process paperwork so you will be ready to receive benefits as soon as funding is available. Check back here for updates. We will update this banner with new information as soon as we receive it.

If you need more food resources during the government shutdown, we encourage you to reach out to your local food banks or community agencies in your area. To find these resources in your area, please contact:

A HUGE *Thank You* to Katie Pittman!

The Hambrick Foundation Grant

The Hambrick Foundation supports and empowers individuals with special needs.  Katie Pittman, a speech therapist and member of Friends of Fletcher Miller, wrote and submitted a grant for Clark's Toy Workshop!  The Hambrick Foundation awarded Clark's Toy Workshop with funds that will help sustain our efforts and allows us future opportunities to support our greater local community!  THANK YOU Katie for your time and effort supporting this opportunity!

We’re so grateful to have you with us and excited for what’s ahead. There’s so much more to come: Winter Wonderland event, staff appreciation, assistive technology for students, and support of our Fletcher Miller students, staff, and families!
